Neurodiversity affirming care
Therapy for women with ADHD in Bethesda, Maryland
In person and virtual therapy to help you work with your brain, not against it.
Motherhood already asks you to hold so much.
ADHD can make it feel like your brain is constantly running three steps behind and ten steps ahead all at once. Maybe you’re forgetting appointments, struggling to keep up with routines, or feeling overstimulated by the endless noise, touch, and demands of daily life. You may look like you have it together on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed, scattered, emotionally exhausted, and consumed by guilt.
ADHD in motherhood can show up in ways people don’t always talk about. Chronic overwhelm, emotional dysregulation, sensory overload, difficulty resting, people pleasing, perfectionism, shame, and burnout. Sometimes it looks like losing your patience and then replaying the moment for hours afterward. Other times it’s the invisible mental load, the racing thoughts at night, and the feeling that no matter how hard you try, you just can’t catch up.

FAQs
-
Many women and mothers with ADHD were never diagnosed as children because their symptoms looked more like anxiety, perfectionism, overthinking, emotional overwhelm, or chronic burnout rather than hyperactivity. In fact, some of your “symptoms” may have really served you well while growing up. Now though, you may struggle with mental load, time management, emotional regulation, procrastination, forgetfulness, or constantly feeling “behind” despite trying incredibly hard.
-
For sure. Many women notice ADHD symptoms become more noticeable during pregnancy, postpartum, or motherhood because parenting places heavy demands on executive functioning, emotional regulation, organization, and sensory capacity. If you had helpful systems in place before, they may no longer work with the new routines and structures you are now forced to adopt. Additionally, your own child’s neurodivergence may be in conflict with yours, forcing you to reevaluate how you have set up your family to succeed. Sleep deprivation, stress, and hormonal changes can also intensify symptoms.

Therapy often focuses on practical, compassionate support rather than just “trying harder.” Sessions may include emotional regulation skills, reducing shame, managing overwhelm, improving routines, nervous system support, boundary setting, burnout recovery, and learning ADHD-friendly strategies that work for your real life as a mom.
-
Absolutely. Many high achieving women with ADHD become experts at masking their struggles. You may appear organized, driven, or capable professionally while privately struggling with exhaustion, decision fatigue, emotional overwhelm, unfinished tasks, or feeling like you’re constantly barely holding things together. Those internal struggles can increase shame, fear, and urges to push yourself beyond your capacity. We can work together to help you set things down, build effective systems and tools, and notice a balance in your life rather than success in just one place.
